Psy’s Legacy: Part Two Has Begun
The floodgates have opened, and Psy is taking over the world. Five days into the official release of "Gentleman" the exponential increase of the music video's YouTube hits is continuing and renders any estimate useless because it is changing by the second.
With a flurry of parodies being produced and countless reports from across the globe, the reaction to Psy's follow-up to "Gangnam Style" is none other than explosive. Breaking his previous records made by "Gangnam Style" might be in order because, this time around, he is already a world star to begin with.
One can only imagine the amount of pressure Psy was under in making of the song to follow the improbable mega hit that put the world on fire in 2012. But as a result of the reunited collaboration of the original "Gangnam Style" cast and crew members, they put together another miracle in "Gentleman."
Considering that "Harlem Shake" was able to top the Billboard for 4 weeks with its dominance on YouTube view counts, "Gentleman" definitely has a chance at the throne. In order to accomplish the unprecedented feat by an Asian artist, however, its success on the radio and digital sales need to be on par with Psy's first hit.
Psy is taking off for the United States after just performing at just one concert in Korea. He is taking his steps toward the world market once again. Everyone is wondering the same thing: Is he going to do it again?
In 2012, the globe was Psy's stage. If by some slim chance Psy is unable to repeat the success of "Gangnam Style" and becomes a one-hit wonder like what some critics wrote him off as, he has earned the right and the respect as an artist in most parts of the world.
Psy has become the national pride of Korea. His legacy began more than ten years ago when he debuted as a chubby, sweaty dancing machine in Korea. The world was finally introduced to the matchless, unique artist Psy in 2012. This year, he continues to do what he has been doing for the past decade. Just on a bigger stage, the world.
